Botox® Treatment in Weston, FL

A full life brings its share of surprises, smiles, and frowns. All those experiences and facial expressions mean repeated muscle contractions, one of the factors that may lead to prominent lines.

  • What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is a protein complex that interferes with muscle contraction. It temporarily blocks nerve stimulation of muscles where it is injected, so that muscle contraction is weakened or inhibited. BOTOX® has been safely used for many years to treat spasms of the muscles that move the eye (strabismus) and uncontrollable blinking (blepharospasm). In 2002 it was approved by the FDA for cosmetic use, and since that time it has been marketed as BOTOX® Cosmetic.

  • Why Should I Consider BOTOX®?

Many facial wrinkles and creases are active lines caused by muscle contraction, which can be blocked by BOTOX® injection. The effect is temporary, usually lasting 3 to 6 months. With repeated injection, the effect may regularly last up to 5 or 6 months. Although some wrinkles and creases may completely disappear (temporarily), it is important to understand that some may improve but not completely disappear.

  • What Can BOTOX® Do for Each Area of my Face?

    UPPER FACE

Areas of the face that respond well to BOTOX® include lines around the eyes (crow’s feet), vertical frown lines between the eyebrows (furrow or angry look), and horizontal lines on the forehead (worry lines). BOTOX® can also be administered just below the lateral aspect of the eyebrow to produce a temporary lateral brow lift, which opens up and brightens the eyes.

    MID FACE

Areas of the face that respond well to BOTOX® include masseter muscles, the muscle located in the posterior portion of the jaw near the temporomandibular joint. This reduces jowls in some clients and provides pain relief from those suffering from clenching or grinding.

    LOWER FACE

In some instances, BOTOX® can be used to soften vertical upper and lower lip lines, to reduce muscle bands in the anterior neck, and even to elevate the nasal tip. Some “lower” face injection from BOTOX® Cosmetic include the depressor anguli oris (or DAO’s) which pull down on the angle of the mouth.

  • What Safety Information Should I know?

BOTOX® Cosmetic may cause serious side effects that can be life threatening. Get medical help right away if you have any of these problems any time (hours to weeks) after injection of BOTOX® Cosmetic:

Problems swallowing, speaking, or breathing, due to weakening of associated muscles, can be severe and result in loss of life. You are at the highest risk if these problems are pre-existing before injection. Swallowing problems may last for several months.

Spread of toxin effects. The effect of botulinum toxin may affect areas away from the injection site and cause serious symptoms including: loss of strength and all-over muscle weakness, double vision, blurred vision and drooping eyelids, hoarseness or change or loss of voice, trouble saying words clearly, loss of bladder control, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.*

BOTOX®  Cosmetic dosing units are not the same as, or comparable to, any other botulinum toxin product.
